Celebrating the International Day of Francophonie with recitals of contemporary Romanian poetry (in Romanian, English and French) accompanied by jazz interludes in the presence of Romanian poets Nora Iuga, Mircea Valeriu Popa, Octavian Soviany, Andra Rotaru, Cosmin Pera and Miruna Vlada and renowned jazz player Liviu Butoi. The six poets are representative of contemporary Romanian lyric; each of them has met with favourable criticism, they have all been awarded prestigious Romanian prizes. They are also open to intercultural dialogue, having received residence grants in European states, having been translated and appreciated abroad. All of them have previous experiences with audiences, having held public readings in the country or abroad or having become involved in inter-art projects.

NORA IUGA (b. 1934) poet, prose writer and translator, member of the Romanian Writers' Union and of the Romanian Pen Club. She has published twelve volumes of poetry, four novels and she is a recipient of the prize of the Writers' Union of Romania. Nora Iuga has translated into Romanian the works of over ten renowned German author and in 2009, she received the most prestigious German grant awarded to foreign writers - DAAD.

VALERIU MIRCEA POPA (b. 1947) poet, university professor, member of the Romanian Writers' Union and of the Romanian Pen Club, with a Ph. D. in psychology (specialization: psychology of art). He has published five poetry volumes and has received twice the Bucharest Writers' Association Prize.

OCTAVIAN SOVIANY (b. 1954) poet, prose writer, playwright, essayist, member of the Romanian Writers' Union. He holds a Ph. D. in philology (specialization: Romanian literature). In 2004 he was given the distinction the Order of the Cultural Merit (in the Grade of Knight) by the president of Romania (2004).

ANDRA ROTARU (b. 1980) poet, journalist. She received the Mihai Eminescu/opera prima National Prize, the Tudor Arghezi National Prize, the Iustin Panţa National Prize (of the Writers' Union branch in Sibiu) and the Bucharest Writers' Association Prize for the volume "Într-un pat sub cearşaful alb" (In a bed under a white sheet)

COSMIN PERŢA (b. 1982) poet, prose writer and journalist. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Letters, University of Bucharest. He has published five volumes of poetry and a novel for which he has received several literary awards and positive reviews having also benefitted from a residence grant in Paris in 2009, offered by the Cultural Romanian Institute.

MIRUNA VLADA (b. 1986) poet, cultural manager. She has published two poetry volumes. She received the Debut Prize of the the Bucharest Writers' Association, the Debut Prize of Luceafărul magazine, the Horaţiu Ioan Lascu Debut Prize (of the Writers' Union branch in Iaşi), the Third Prized at the international short-story competition PIJA - Prix Internationales des Jeunes Auteurs, Liege, 2005.

ALINA-OLIMPIA MIRON (b. 1984) translator, teacher of English and French. She has published various poetry and prose translations in Timpul, Diagonale, The Measure, Egophobia, the bilingual anthologies Mi-ar trebui un şir de ani/It might take me years (Romanian PEN Club) and aproape.atat de departe/close.so far away written by Lucian Vasilescu.

LIVIU BUTOI has been described as one the most outstanding jazz musician of his generation. Liviu has made his reputation with a combination of jazz performances and compositions. His music can be categorized as "a blend of Modal Jazz, Sound Exploring and Instant Composition ". For the past seven years, Liviu Butoi tours intensively in France, Austria, Poland, Germany, Spain and Sweden. Participates at The Jazzy Colors Festival, Paris, Friday Night Fever, Vienna, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Poland and plays with Burton Greene, John Betsch , Jan Roder, Michael Griener and Maurice de Martin.

The evening will conclude with a tasting of Romanian wines and aperitifs.

The event is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Romanian Information Centre in Brussels with the kind support of PassaPorta.
